What Are Parkview Signs Made Out Of?

Our signs are 100% weather proof and are designed to withstand the harshest elements. We use space age materials as detailed below. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Data sheets and further information on the materials in your sign can be supplied upon request.

HDU vs. Wood

Painting 3D SculptureThe sign is made using High Density Urethane (HDU). Although it is really a closed cell plastic, HDU is most like wood except that it never absorbs moisture. It is the sign carvers material of choice for exterior signs because of its superior weatherability; and it makes trees happy.

Signs made with HDU have many benefits. HDU is completely waterproof and never rots. This means that paint sticks far longer than it does on a wooden sign. Your sign will not crack like a ceramic sign, and won't tarnish like brass. HDU is comparable to redwood or western red cedar in its strength and density.

The HDU is permanently laminated to a PVC backer which provides better rigidity and impact resistance, and provides a solid material to attach the mounting hardware to.

Production Paint

All signs get multiple coats of 100% acrylic paint to create the surface color and texture. The paint is very durable and stands up well to UV light.

Gilding a Sign23-Carat Gold Leaf

We use real gold to gild the letters and numbers on most of our house signs. Gold leaf has been used for centuries to signify wealth and class. It reflects light like no other metal, giving the lettering on your sign a warm glow. Gold is not affected by UV light, so it will still look great in 25 years if maintained carefully. Gold is quite soft, so do not touch it or rub it with anything.

Artist's Paint

Our artists use the best Liquitex Acrylic Paint for the paintings on the sign. The paint has been well tested for color fastness and resists the sun very well.
